Our History

Established in 1988,

impacting lives everyday.

Established in 1988, impacting lives everyday.

During the 1970’s and early 1980’s, there was a developing epidemic of increased substance abusers in Jamaica. In response to the crisis, the Government of Jamaica partnered with the European Economic Community (EEC) now European Union (EU), to launch a project to establish residential rehabilitation for low to middle income groups. For the project, the expertise and services of the London-based charity Richmond Fellowship International (RFI) was solicited and shortly after, the group established Richmond Fellowship Jamaica (RFJ) on April 8, 1988.

For over three (3) years, RFI with its over thirty (30) years of experience, led and saw the project to its completion. During the period, EU provided funding for a twenty-four (24) beds rehabilitation center, which catered to the needs of individuals with substance misuse/dependency issues. The center was setup in a calm, tranquil environment located at 6 Upper Musgrave Avenue, Kingston, Jamaica and accepted its first set of clients on April 17, 1991.

After much consideration and consultation with the previous property owners, it was decided to honour them by naming the facility using the first name of the family matriarch – Patricia. So, for the last thirty-two (32) years, many people have come to know the center as Patricia House.

Patricia House had programmes that embodied the philosophy that every aspect of the day should be of therapeutic value. Counseling sessions and social intervention programs were conducted in a friendly and family-like and professional atmosphere; underpinned by the core principle that each member of the community -staff and clients- differ only in function thus developing a mutual and respectful relationships/fellowships.

In April 2021, Patricia House temporarily ceased operations in Kingston to undergo relocation and company restructuring. In April 2023 - under the rebranded Richmond Fellowship Jamaica Limited - the newly renovated facility located in Banbury, Linstead, St. Catherine re-opens its doors to continue transforming the lives of its clients, their families and communities.
